For the inspection, the motor vehicle (2) can drive through the device (1) at a defined speed or the motor vehicle (2) can come to a halt in the device (1), so that images can be taken of the individual sides (2O, 2R, 2SL, 2SR, 2U, 2V) of the motor vehicle (2) by means of the plurality of image recording devices (4). The images are taken with a plurality of image recording devices (4) which are divided into a plurality of groups (61, 62,...6N). A first group (61) is used to take an image of a top side (20), a second group (62) is used to take an image of an underside (2U), a third group (63) is used to take an image of a front side (2V), a fourth group (64) is used to take an image of a rear side (2R), a fifth group (65) is used to take an image of a left side (2SL) and a sixth group (66) is used to take an image of a right side (2SR) of the motor vehicle (2).
