The rod-shaped articles (2) are each an assembly part of several segments(6a...6e). The device (32) comprises a conveying mechanism (34) for the transverse-axial conveying of the rod-shaped articles (2), and the conveying mechanism comprises a plurality of receiving troughs (36) in which the rod-shaped articles (2) are receivable. The device (32) further comprises an image acquisition device (18) with which the rod-shaped articles (2) arranged in the receiving troughs(36) can be detected during the transverse axial conveyance. The image acquisition device (18) comprises a camera assembly (14) with a plurality of cameras (16a...16e) for image acquisition, which are arranged side by side in a longitudinal direction (A) of the receiving troughs (36).
