[origin: WO2018059960A1] The present invention proposes a foot pedal for controlling a medical device, in particular a dentistry device, comprising: a housing (20) having a housing base (22); a cover element (10), which is mounted in a vertically displaceable manner in an operation direction (B) relative to the housing base (22) and in a tiltable manner relative to the housing base (22); a first switch (41) for initiating a first function of the medical device and a second switch (42) for initiating a second function of the medical device; and an operating device (15), which is vertically displaceable in the operating direction (B) and, in the case of movement in the operating direction (B), operates the first switch (41) within a first height offset section and operates the second switch (42) within a second height offset section. The operating device (15) is designed such that it is in a first state in the first height offset section and in a second state in the second height offset section. The foot pedal (1) is designed such that, when the cover element (10) is at a maximum possible tilt angle, the operating device (15) is always within the first height offset section.
