[origin: WO2018068985A1] The invention relates to a device for descaling a slab and to a method for operating same. Known descaling devices comprise at least one nozzle for spraying a first liquid under high pressure onto the upper face of the slab and a collection container which is arranged below the nozzle in the spray cone of the nozzle and is open towards the nozzle in order to collect at least some of the liquid sprayed from the nozzle. The aim of the invention is to absorb the high energy that the liquid has when the liquid is sprayed from the nozzle under high pressure onto the surface of the slab for descaling purposes. According to the invention, this is achieved in that the collection container is arranged so far below the nozzle that the slab can be guided between the nozzle and the collection container, and the collection container can be filled with a second liquid.
