[origin: WO2018083331A1] The invention relates to a method and to a transport cart (3) for transporting away steel strands individually produced in a semicontinuous strand casting system (1), wherein a metal melt, which is fed to at least one vertical mold (8) and solidifies in the mold (8), is removed as a hot strand (4) vertically downward into a strand guide region (SFB) by means of a cold strand (9) by the lowering of a reciprocating means (20), which holds the cold strand (9) at the lower end of the cold strand, which lower end leads in the casting direction, said strand guide region having guide means (11), which can be placed in contact against the hot strand (4), and wherein, after the end of the casting process, the hot strand (4) can be received by a transport cart (3), which can be moved on the work platform (2) above the strand guide region (SFB). According to the invention, in order to optimize the transporting away of a hot strand or fully solidified block, after the cold strand (9) has been uncoupled from the cold strand head (19), which has fused with the hot strand (4) by means of an upper partial segment (19a), the hot strand (4) is held and carried in a vertical position with relief from external forces during the transporting away by means of interlocking means (29) that can be placed in contact and by means of supporting means (36) of the transport cart (3), which supporting means can be brought into engagement in a lower partial segment (19b) of the cold strand head (19) or extend under the cold strand head (19), wherein the guide means (11) of the steel support frame (5b) release the hot strand (4) as soon as the interlocking means (29) have been placed in contact and the supporting means (36) have been brought into engagement.
