[origin: WO2018108867A1] The present invention relates to a mobile manipulator (1), comprising: a mobile platform (10); a manipulator (20) which is arranged on the mobile platform (10); at least one camera (30, 31) which is mounted on the mobile manipulator (1) and which, at a first point in time t1, provides a first image (61) of an area of the surroundings; and a control system (12) which is configured to check whether the first image (61) has sufficient features (40) of the surroundings to perform an active SLAM method on the basis of the first image (61), wherein the control system (12) adapts the field of view of the camera (30, 31) if the first image (61) does not have sufficient features (40) to provide a second image (62) at a second point in time t2, which is after the first point in time t1, using the camera (30, 31), which second image has sufficient features (40) to perform an active SLAM method, and the control system (12) is configured to perform an active SLAM method by means of the first (6) or the second image (62).
