[origin: WO2018114828A1] The invention relates to a layer structure (S) for an operating element which can be illuminated, comprising or consisting of the following layers in the specified order: A) a light-guiding flat element (3) into which light can be coupled from a light source (4) via at least one of the abutting edges of the flat element, wherein the light propagates laterally within the light-guiding flat element (3) and is at least partly emitted onto the flat element side facing the symbol layer (1); B) optionally a transparent intermediate layer (2); C) a second symbol layer (1) comprising at least one symbol; and D) optionally a protective layer (6). The invention additionally relates to the production of such a layer structure (S), to a decorative element which can be illuminated and which comprises such a layer structure (S), and to the use of the decorative element and the layer structure (S).
