Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2018122210A1] A hydraulically damped actuator for closing a hinged closure member (1). The actuator comprises: an energy storing mechanism for storing energy when opening the closure member (1) and using the energy to close the closure member (1); a damping mechanism for damping a closing movement of the closure member (1) having a closed cylinder cavity (40) filled with hydraulic fluid; and a pressure compensation mechanism comprising an expansion channel (69) with a plunger (70) that is slidably received therein for compensating changes of a volume of the hydraulic fluid upon temperature variations. The plunger (70) divides the expansion channel (69) into a first compartment (71) in fluid communication with the cylinder cavity (40) and a second compartment (72) that is sealed off from the first compartment (71) by the plunger (70). The expansion channel (69) provides space to allow the hydraulic fluid to expand without resulting in excessive pressures that would damage the closed cylinder cavity (40).
