Abstract (en)
A cover plate mechanism for being selectively opened and closed, the cover plate mechanism comprising a mounting frame (26), a pivotally mounted cover plate (28) and a touch, pressure or push latch (30), wherein the pivotally mounted cover plate has a front face and a back, and it is pivotally connected to the mounting frame (26) via at least one fulcrum that extends rearwardly from the back of the cover plate (28), the mounting frame (26) is for mounting to a hinged portal, such as a door, a window, a hatch or an access panel, for pivotally mounting the cover plate to the portal, and the touch, pressure or push latch (30) comprises a body and a biasing member, the biasing member being arranged to adapt positions between a releasable retracted condition and an extended condition, the bias driving the biasing member towards the extended condition when the releasable retracted condition is released by a suitable touch, pressure or push thereagainst by a user, the deployment thereof from the retracted condition into the extended condition being for rotating the cover plate (28) about an axis from a first position to a second position, wherein the axis is through the fulcrum, and the axis lies parallel to the front face.
