[origin: JP2019198073A] To provide a method for operating a hearing aid for improving emphasis of acoustic signals from a prescribed direction.SOLUTION: A hearing aid 2 comprises: a microphone 7 that generates an input signal E from acoustic signals from the environment; and a signal processor 4. The signal processor comprises an automatic gain controller 10 to modify the input signal E to generate an output signal A. The automatic gain controller has a compressor 12 that can be operated according to a compression standard. The environment is divided into a plurality of directions of which one is selected by a direction determination unit 14 as a relevant direction R. The input signal E is modified in a direction-dependent manner by the compressor 12 being operated according to the compression standard. The compression standard is set dependent on the relevant direction R. Es wird ein Verfahren zum Betrieb eines Hörgeräts (2) angegeben, wobei das Hörgerät (2) aus Schallsignalen der Umgebung ein Eingangssignal (E) erzeugt, wobei das Hörgerät (2) eine Signalverarbeitung (4) aufweist, welche ausgebildet ist, das Eingangssignal (E) zu modifizieren und dadurch ein Ausgangssignal (A) zu erzeugen, wobei die Signalverarbeitung (4) zur Modifizierung des Eingangssignals (E) eine automatische Verstärkungsregelung (10) aufweist, welche einen Kompressor (12) aufweist, welcher mit einem Kompressionsschema (K) betreibbar ist, wobei die Umgebung in mehrere Richtungen unterteilt ist, von welchen eine mittels einer Richtungsbestimmungseinheit (14) als eine relevante Richtung (R) ausgewählt wird, wobei das Eingangssignal (E) richtungsabhängig modifiziert wird, indem der Kompressor (12) mit einem Kompressionsschema (K) betrieben wird, welches abhängig von der relevanten Richtung (R) eingestellt wird, sodass Schallsignale aus der relevanten Richtung (R) gegenüber Schallsignalen aus anderen Richtungen hervorgehoben werden. Weiter wird ein entsprechendes Hörgerät (2) angegeben.
