Abstract (en)
[origin: GB2559199A] An adaptive stereo audio signal encoder/decoder receives multichannel audio frames, determines difference parameters (553, eg. gain, interphase difference, residual prediction gain), generates index values from initial scalar quantized parameters (451) and index maps for reordering the index values, and encodes the reordered index values to generate a single (mono) channel 555. Increasing the coding efficiency of these parameters means reducing the bitrate of the extension and using the saved bits for better encoding of the mono downmix. Golomb-Rice (GR) encoding 455 then allows efficient voice coding of the single (mono) channel, and subsequent decoding (figs 9 & 10).
