[origin: WO2018188784A1] The invention relates to a security element (12) for protecting security papers, value documents and other data carriers, having a colored feature region (14) having different colors. According to the invention, the feature region (14) has at least two sub-regions (22, 24) having relief structures (32, 34) of differing surface geometries, the feature region (14) is provided with a colored printing ink (40) which has a colorant (42) and a plurality of platelet-shaped effect pigments (44), and the platelet-shaped effect pigments (44) in the two sub-regions (22, 24) are aligned and/or spaced differently because of the differing surface geometries of the relief structures (32, 34), and the printing ink (40) generates different color impressions in the two sub-regions as a result.
