[origin: WO2018197090A1] The invention proceeds from a wheel device which is driven by electric motor, in particular from a smart wheel, having at least one wheel main body (12a-12f), having at least one drive unit (14a-14f) which is arranged, in particular, at least partially on the wheel main body (12a-12f) and is provided for driving the wheel main body (12a-12f), and having at least one electronic unit (16a-16f) which is provided at least for controlling and/or regulating the drive unit (14a-14f). It is proposed that the wheel device which is driven by electric motor comprises at least one detection unit (18a-18f) which is configured, in particular, differently from a switching element which can be actuated directly by an operator (24a-24f), for detecting at least one operator-specific characteristic variable, wherein at least the electronic unit (16a-16f) and/or the drive unit (14a-14f) can be activated automatically in a manner which is dependent on the at least one detected operator-specific characteristic variable.
