[origin: WO2018215245A1] The invention relates to a method for monitoring a process or a process step on a machine (1) having a transport element (2) with a plurality of treatment stations (3), wherein the treatment stations (3) each comprise at least one functional element which is used to act on the workpiece directly or indirectly, wherein the treatment stations (3) and/or the at least one functional element thereof is/are each used to convey a workpiece to be treated on a transport path (TS) between an inlet (E) and an outlet (A) during treatment, or the workpiece at a treatment station (3) is changed and/or produced or is acted on at least on one section of this transport path (TS) . The method is distinguished by the fact that the treatment stations (3) each at least partially have at least one sensor (4) for recording an oscillation frequency and/or an acoustic signal, which sensor is used to capture a pattern produced by the treatment or production process at the particular treatment station (3) and while transporting the workpiece at this treatment station (3), and by the fact that the measurement signal provided by the sensor (4) or a signal derived therefrom is evaluated and is compared with a reference signal.
