A spacer for insulating glazing units (40) having at least two spaced glazing panes (51, 52) connected at their edges via the spacer (50) in a mounted state in which the spacer is mountedat the edges to limit an interspace (53), comprisingat least one self-illuminating wall adapted to face the gas filled interspace in the mounted state, wherein a major part of the self-illuminating wall is made of plastic material containing phosphorescent additives.
