[origin: WO2019007596A1] The invention relates to a method for operating a pump for process fluids circulated in a machine tool, comprising a housing (10) having a pump chamber (14) and an intake port (12) for the process fluid, a shaft (22) rotatably mounted in the housing (10), an impeller (28, 30) arranged on the shaft (22) in the pump chamber (14), and a sealing assembly (32) for sealing the shaft (22) in the housing (10) on the side of the pump chamber (14) opposite the intake port (12), wherein the sealing assembly (32) has a sealing chamber (36) in which two shaft seals (38, 40) are arranged at an axial distance on the shaft (22), characterised in that fresh process fluid is pumped into a section of the sealing chamber (36) positioned between the shaft seals (38, 40) by an auxiliary pump (48).
