[origin: WO2019015851A1] The invention relates to a device (6) for identifying damage (32) to vehicle panes (4, 5), in particular motor vehicle panes (4, 5), said device comprising: an image-capture device (8) which is designed to capture at least one image (34) of a pane (4, 5) of a vehicle (2); a storage device (14) in which the dimensions of the windows (4, 5) of multiple vehicles (2) are stored; and a control and evaluation device (12). The control and evaluation device (12) is designed to identify a vehicle (2) using predefined parameters, to retrieve the dimensions of at least one pane (4, 5) of the identified vehicle (2) from the storage device (14), and to evaluate at least one image of a pane (4, 5) of the vehicle (2) captured by the image-capture device (8). The evaluation includes: identifying possible damage (32) to the panes (4, 5); determining the positions of the identified possible damage (32) to the panes (4, 5); determining whether the identified possible damage (32) is located in a reparable region of the pane (4, 5) by a comparison with the retrieved dimensions of the window (4, 5); and determining the size of at least any damage (32) which is located in a reparable region of the pane (4, 5).
