[origin: EP3656479A1] A washing machine for empty containers (2) includes a conveyor (4) for advancing containers (2) with respective base portions (2c) and respective opposite inlet openings (2f) along a washing treatment path (Q) from an inlet station (I) to an outlet station (O), an acid treatment zone (A1) arranged along the path (Q) and provided with an acid emitting apparatus (28) for introducing an acid medium into the inner volumes (2b) of the containers (2), and a descaling zone (D1) arranged downstream of the acid treatment zone (A1) and in which the conveyor conveys the containers (2) with inlet openings (2f) above the base portions (2c), such that at least one portion of the acid medium received by the containers (2) at the acid treatment zone (A1) is kept inside the inner volumes (2b) of the same containers (2) due to gravity action.
