[origin: WO2019037877A1] The present invention relates to an apparatus (100) for storing received data blocks (101) as deduplicated data blocks (102), comprising a repository (103), storing one or more containers (104), each container (104) storing one or more data segments (105) and segment metadata (106) for each data segment (105), and a database (107), storing a plurality of deduplicated data blocks (102), each deduplicated data block (102) containing a plurality of references (108) to the data segments (105) of the received data block (101) and to the containers (104) storing these data segments (105), wherein the apparatus (100) is configured to maintain, in the repository (103), a plurality of block backup files (109), each block backup file (109) storing a copy of one or more deduplicated data blocks (102), and wherein the apparatus (100) is configured to associate a deduplicated data block (102) in the database (107) with the block backup file (109) in which a copy of the deduplicated data block (102) is stored.
