[origin: WO2019025725A1] The present invention relates to the cosmetic use of a pericarp extract of the plant Nephelium lappaceum in order to maintain and/or increase the hydration and/or the barrier effect of the skin and/or of the mucous membranes. The pericarp extract increases the synthesis of involucrin, the content of hyaluronic acid, synthesis of ATP and of taurine transporter TauT. The invention also relates to a method of cosmetic care comprising the topical application of the pericarp extract of N. lappaceum. Finally, the invention relates to the pericarp extract for its use, in particular dermatological use, in the treatment and/or prevention of pathologies caused by a state of abnormal dryness of the skin and/or of the mucous membranes.
