The controllable packaging device (5) comprises a fixing device (23) for applying the bale-fixing element (11), a supply device (25) for the upper part (8) and the lower part (9) and optionally an envelope device (24) for applying the side part (10) to the compressed bales (6). The fixing device (23) and optionally the envelope device (24) are arranged on a transport apparatus (19) that can travel along the compressed bale (6) in an advancing direction (22). The supply device (25) is also arranged on the transport apparatus (19) and supplies the upper part (8) and the lower part (9) with a supply movement oriented transversely to the advancing direction (22), from the outside into the baling press (2), particularly on the male form (16) thereof.
