[origin: WO2019029994A1] The invention is based on a device (10) for monitoring an occupancy state of a parking space (110) in a car park (100). The device (10) has at least a processing unit (20), a sensor unit (30) for detecting the occupancy state of the parking space (110), and a first wireless communication unit (40) for communicating with a second wireless communication unit (80) of an external unit (70). The processing unit (20) is furthermore configured to detect the occupancy state of the parking space (110) using the sensor unit (30) and transmit it using the first communication unit (40). The processing unit (20) is additionally configured to select transmission parameters of the first communication unit (40) depending on the detected occupancy state of the parking space (110). The invention additionally relates to a system (60) having a device (10) according to the invention and to a method for operating a device (10) according to the invention and a system (60) according to the invention.
