A processor (102) is in communication with a display device (100) having a display screen (101). The processor (102) receives, from the display screen (101), information relating to one or more capabilities of the display screen (101); generates metadata indicating the one or more capabilities of the display screen (101) based on the received information; and stores the generated metadata at a storage device (103). The video source device (200) can drive the display screen (101) in accordance with the capabilities of the display screen (101) as indicated by the metadata.
