The warp knitting machine has a maximum composite needle lift of 10 mm. The purpose of the present invention is to achieve high productivity of a warp knitting machine with high quality of knitted fabric. For this purpose, the needle shaft (10) has, at least at the end (15) of the sliding region in which the coil is located at the end of the composite needle lift movement, a circumference which is at least as large as the overall maximum circumference of the needle head (8) parallel thereto and of the needle core (11) in the closed position.
