[origin: GB2577497A] A modular floor covering apparatus 10 comprises a planar base 12 having an upper face 14, a lower face 16, a first edge 18 and a second edge 20. Planar aluminium edge portions 22,24 are affixed to first and second edges 18,20 respectively. Each of the edge portions 22,24 extend perpendicular to the base 12, and define a well 26 having a depth D. Preferably arranged to be positioned within the well 26, and adjacent to the upper face 14 of the base 12, and the first and second edge portions 22,24 is a fibrous mat 28 affixed to a fabric mat bed 29. The mat 28,29 may have a height H which is 2mm greater that the depth D. The floor covering apparatus 10 is arranged to tessellate with at least one other such floor covering apparatus (see figure 3).
