[origin: WO2019105797A1] The invention relates to an elevator system, to a method for operating an elevator system, to a use of a cable, and to an emergency set. The elevator system (10) comprises an elevator car (1), a counterweight (6), and at least one emergency cable (3a, 3b). At least one guide (2a, 2b) is attached to the elevator car (1) and/or to the counter weight (6), through which guide the emergency cable (3a, 3b) can be fed. A blocking element (4) is attached to the emergency cable (3a, 3b). The guide (2a, 2b) and the blocking element (4) are designed in such a way that the blocking element (4) stops at the guide (2a, 2b).
