The safety switch is provided with switching contacts (17) arranged in a housing (1), a switching drum (2) working on the switchingcontacts, and an actuating device (3) acting on the switching drum (2), wherein a cable (4) is connected to the actuating device, the shift drum (2) is at least partially designed as a hollow shaft (5) in which an unlocking shaft (6) coupled to the hollow shaft (5) in the direction of rotation is arranged so as to be spring-pretensioned and axially displaceable. The unlocking shaft supports an unlocking handle at the end of the actuation side, and a locking element which is positioned on the hollow shaft in a rotationally fixed manner and can be axially displaced relative to the hollow shaftis forcibly coupled to the unlocking shaft. The locking element determines an axial stroke of spring preloading of the unlocking shaft in an acting position with a support fixed on the housing. In order to stop the shaft of the switching roller after a rotation of the hollow shaft caused by a quick shut-off, the locking element moves the axial stroke into a non-active position.
