[origin: WO2019120967A1] The invention relates to a centrifuge (10) and to a method for preventing ignition of combustible temperature control media in centrifuges (10) after a crash of the centrifuge rotor, wherein ignition is prevented by releasing a protective gas in the case of a crash. More precisely, the released protective gas forms a flow which displaces the oxygen, distributes the exiting temperature control medium and fundamentally changes the current ratio of the concentration of oxygen to temperature control medium such that both inside and outside the centrifuge (10) no ignition can take place. As a result, even combustible temperature control media can be used without safety concerns in the context of temperature control of centrifuges (10).
