Abstract (en)
[origin: GB2569648A] A magnetic shield 2 for a vacuum pump 1, which encloses a portion of the pump such that external magnetic fields do not have an effect on the pump within the shield. There will be a longitudinally extending circumferential channel between the shield and the pump, and there should be a pump envelope 3 arranged around the rotor cavity and inside the magnetic shield. The channel between the pump and the shield may have cooling fluid pumped through it. The shield may be made of mild steel. An independent claim is made to a method of manufacturing the magnetic shield. The pump may be a turbomolecular pump.
