[origin: WO2019137968A1] The invention relates to a method for producing a tool electrode (1) for spark eroding a workpiece (10) with the goal of producing a recess/depression (11) in the workpiece, said recess/depression having a base surface (4) and lateral surfaces (5). The tool electrode has a front surface (2), which faces the surface (4) to be eroded or the base surface of the workpiece, and one or more lateral surfaces (3), which faces the lateral surfaces (5) of the recess/depression eroded in the workpiece during the eroding process. A substantial improvement of the spark eroding process is achieved using the tool electrode (1) in that one or more lateral surfaces (3) of the tool electrode (1) are at least partly brought into contact with a substance which reacts with the material of the tool electrode, thereby forming an electrically insulating reaction layer, in particular an oxide.
