[origin: WO2019149714A1] The invention relates to a steering column (1) for a motor vehicle, comprising a casing unit (2) which can be connected directly or indirectly to the body of a motor vehicle and in which a steering spindle (3) is mounted in a rotatable manner about its longitudinal axis (L), said casing unit having an inner casing (21) which is received in an outer casing (22) so as to be movable in a telescoping manner in the direction of the longitudinal axis (L), a clamping device (5) that can be switched to a fixing position, in which the clamping device fixes the inner casing (21) relative to the outer casing (22), or a release position, in which the clamping device releases a telescoping movement of the inner casing (21) relative to the outer casing (22), and an energy absorption device, which has a deformation element arranged between the inner casing (21) and the outer casing (21). The aim of the invention is to reduce the production and assembly complexity. According to the invention, this is achieved in that the casing unit (2) has a cable mounting (6) which has at least one securing element (61) for mounting at least one cable (62) and is at least partly designed as the deformation element.
