[origin: WO2019149401A1] The invention relates to a device (2) and a method for the controlled conveying of piece goods of a first class (4a) and piece goods of a second class (4b) towards a sorter (6). The device comprises a supplying device (8) and a loading device (10). The supplying device (8) feeds laterally into the loading device (10), and the loading device (10) feeds laterally into the sorter (6). The supplying device (8) comprises a first and a second supplying conveying section (8a, 8b). The loading device (10) comprises a first and a second loading conveying section (10a, 10b), the supporting surfaces (12a, 2b) of which are situated next to each other substantially at the same height. The first and second supplying conveying sections (8a, 8b) feed into the first and second loading conveying sections (10a, 10b), respectively. A transition (14) between the first and second loading conveying sections (10a, 10b) is barrier-free. A piece good of the first class (4a) is transported on the first or second supplying conveying section (8a, 8b) only and on the first or second loading conveying section (10a, 10b) only. A piece good of the second class (4b) is transported on the first or second supplying conveying section (8a, 8b) but then lying on both the first and second loading conveying sections (10a, 10b).
