The iron is characterized in that the evaporation chamber (3) is laterally defined by a peripheral wall (22) protruding from the upper surface of the heating body, and the upper part of the evaporation chamber is closed by a closing plate (24) resting on the peripheral wall, and an exhaust duct (26) extending beyond the volume defined by the peripheral wall (22) and the closureplate, the exhaust duct extending through the side of the evaporation chamber and/or below the evaporation chamber towards the lower surface of the heating body.
