[origin: GB2571571A] A jaw crusher 2 comprises a frame 4, a fixed jaw 6 and a moveable jaw 8. Frame 4 and jaws 6, 8 define a crushing chamber 10 for receiving material to be crushed when entering by opening 10a. Jaw crusher 2 also comprises shaft 12 configured for rotation with respect to frame 4 about an axis of rotation. Moveable jaw 8 is mounted for cyclic movement in the direction of fixed jaw 6 via shaft 12 and wherein moveable jaw 8 comprises a free end 8b coupled to shaft 12 via coupling mechanism16 which has a first rotatable portion (16a, Fig 2) provided proximal the axis of rotation and configured for rotation about the axis of rotation Coupling mechanism 16 comprising a linking arrangement, the linking arrangement 28 comprising an articulated arrangement having two or more components in the form of a pair of pitman links 36, and 38, 40, as toggle plates, connected via a joint. A release / adjustment mechanism 34 is configured to actuate when a force applied to the coupling mechanism by the moveable jaw exceeds a predetermined amount is included wherein actuation of the release mechanism reduces the force applied to the coupling mechanism.
