[origin: WO2020234149A1] The invention relates to a method for producing a decorative surface on a workpiece (1), comprising the following steps: - feeding the workpiece (1), at least portions of the surface of which have wood or wood fibers, to a covering-substance application unit (10) and/or to a liquid application unit (20); - at least partially applying a covering substance (3) to the surface of the workpiece (1), the covering substance (3) being designed to at least partially seal the surface of the workpiece (1) at the locations at which the covering substance was applied, the covering substance (3) preferably being able to be digitally printed; and - applying a liquid (4) to the surface of the workpiece (1), the liquid (4) preferably being dyed and preferably containing dyes and/or pigments and/or having properties of a stain. The invention further relates to a device for carrying out the method.
