A housing (7) has a flange (17) on the mounting opening, and the cover is detachably fastened to the flange. The filter element havinga filter body and two end plates; the retaining device is provided with a retaining plate which leans against the end plate opposite to the cover, a through hole for closing the retaining plate and anoil collecting part arranged on the clean side. The retaining device has a retaining ring bearing against an end plate facing the cover, an opening to a through hole of the end plate, and a flange arranged axially between the flange and the cover. The retaining plate and the retaining ring are axially preloaded on the filter element. The oil suction pipe is in fluid communication with the oil collection portion so that oil can be sucked out of the oil collection portion through the oil suction pipe.
