[origin: EP3767654A1] A solid electrolytic capacitor 100 includes a columnar metal core material 19 having a valve function, first external terminals 14 and 15 connected to an end surface on one side of the metal core material 19 and an end surface on the other side of the metal core material 19, respectively, and a second external terminal 16 different in polarity from the first external terminals 14 and 15. The end surface of the metal core material 19 has an area larger than that of a cross section of a central portion of the metal core material 19 in a lengthwise direction of the metal core material 19, the cross section being orthogonal to an axial direction of the metal core material 19. The metal core material 19 has a surface partially provided with a porous layer 19b including an oxide film, and the porous layer 19b is connected to the second external terminal 16 via a cathode layer 22 that is a conductive layer including a conductive polymer.
