[origin: WO2019179865A1] The present invention relates to a display device (100) for a gear selector switch of a vehicle. The display device (100) has at least one light source (140) for emitting light and at least one layer (110, 120, 130) made of a transparent light-conducting material. The at least one layer (110, 120, 130) has: a light-coupling portion (112, 122, 132) for coupling the light from the at least one light source (140) into the at least one layer (110, 120, 130); and a symbol portion (114, 124, 134) which has at least one symbol (R, N, D) and can be illuminated by the light coupled into the at least one layer (110, 120, 130). The light-coupling portion (112, 122, 132) is formed in an edge portion of the at least one layer (110, 120, 130). The at least one light source (140) and the light-coupling portion (112, 122, 132) of the at least one layer (110, 120, 130) are optically coupled to one another.
