[origin: WO2019211377A1] The security element has a security structure, which is interrogated optically as an image and electrically as a network of electrical resistances. A number n of individual electrical contacts (22) are arranged on a carrier (20). The security structure is preferably situated in the region between said contacts, has an electrical conductivity, and produces an electrical connection in each case between the n contacts, the resistance value of which is interrogated. The geometric shape of the security structure is determined i) either by a biological organism which is grown on the carrier (20) and which has ramified growth proceeding from a starting region (29) and the growth of which is stimulatable by virtue of said organism growing toward attractors respectively positioned on the contacts, ii) or by a biological organism which is grown on an auxiliary carrier (34) and which has ramified growth proceeding from a starting region (29) and the growth of which is stimulatable by virtue of said organism growing toward attractors positioned at the locations (36) of the auxiliary carrier (34) at which the contacts are situated on the carrier (20), and transferring the geometric shape of the biological organism thus obtained to the carrier (20).
