[origin: WO2019211012A1] The invention relates to a bale opener (1) for opening pressed fibre bales positioned in a positioning direction (10), comprising a machine frame (11) and comprising a pick-up unit (12), wherein the pick-up unit (12) is vertically adjustably arranged on the machine frame (11), and wherein the machine frame (11) is movable in the positioning direction (10), such that the fibre bales (100) can be transferred by the pick-up unit (12) and fibre material can be removed from the fibre bales (100). According to the invention, the machine frame (11) has a portal design having a first side cheek (13) and with a second side cheek (14), wherein the first side cheek (13) is guided on a running rail (15), and wherein the second side cheek (14) is guided on a base (16), on which the fibre bales (100) are also positioned.
