[origin: WO2021010937A1] The present invention is generally directed to methods and compositions for the treatment of sickle cell diseases and thalassemia. It is more particularly directed to compositions containing L-glutamine, an L-glutamine salt or an L-glutamine derivative and at least one other active ingredient and methods using such compositions. In one aspect, the present invention is directed to a composition for treating sickle cell disease or β-thalassemia. The composition comprises: at least one gram of L-glutamine, an L-glutamine salt or an L-glutamine derivative; and, at least one gram of one type of fiber.
