[origin: WO2019238808A1] The invention relates to a method for producing a highly purified elemental silicon from a starting material (2) containing silicon dioxide, comprising the steps of: a) thermally pre-purifying the starting material (2), impurities (7) from the group consisting of boron and phosphorus being substantially completely separated off and pre-purified silicon dioxide (8) being obtained, b) reducing the pre-purified silicon dioxide (8) to elemental silicon, c) removing impurities (7) remaining after step a) in the pre-purified silicon dioxide (8) during and/or after step b).
