The suction device comprises a lower part (14) which has or forms a dirt collection container (30) with a suction inlet (28), an upper part (16) which can be detachably attached to the lower part (14), and which has a suction assembly (56) and a battery recess (88) for at least one battery (102) for providing electrical energy for the suction device (10) and has or forms a container wall (48) limiting the dirt collection container (30), as well as a filter unit (84) having a filter element (134) for filtering the air suctioned out of the dirt collection container (30) by the suction assembly (56), wherein the filter element (134) is a flat-fold filter (138) and is arranged on the side of the container wall (48) facing the dirt collection container (30), wherein the upper part (16) has or forms an extraction chamber (70) and suction air is extracted by the suction assembly (56), via the extraction chamber (70) and the filter element (134) and out of the dirt collection container (30), and wherein the extraction chamber (70) is positioned between the suction assembly (56) and the battery recess (88).
