[origin: KR20200136297A] Provided are an augmented reality device including a variable focus lens capable of adjusting a focal distance by adjusting the refractive power and adjusting a focus adjustment area in a variable focus lens according to a gaze of a user, and an operation method thereof. In one embodiment of the present invention, the augmented reality device acquires a gaze vector representing a gaze direction of a user using an eye tracker, adjusts the refractive power of a first focus adjustment area of a first variable focus lens for changing a focal distance that a virtual image is displayed, and complementarily adjusts the refractive power of a second variable focus lens for the adjusted refractive power of the first focus adjustment area.
