Aspects include a processing system, a data storage system, and a shadow file system configured to store private user data. Aspects further include causing the shadow file system to perform operations including: storing the private user data in the shadow file system; receiving instructions to delete or make available for download the private user data stored in the shadow file system; and performing operations to delete or make available for download all of the private user data stored in the shadow file system.
