[origin: WO2020025773A1] The invention relates to a method for operating a reversing coiler, and to a reversing coiler itself. A reversing coiler comprises a rotor (110), on which at least one, typically two coiler mandrels (112) are mounted with their rotor-side ends in each case eccentrically with respect to a rotational axis D of the rotor. The coilers (112) serve in each case to wind up strip, in particular metal strip. It is known to couple the free end of in each case one of the two coiler mandrels (112) to a corotating mandrel supporting bearing. In order to counteract a deflection of the free end of the coiler mandrel on account of its weight and on account of its additional loading by way of the wound-up strip, the method according to the invention provides lifting the free end (113) of the coiler mandrel (112) in the winding-on position A to the level of its rotor-side end counter to gravity G with the aid of the coupled corotating mandrel supporting bearing (120).
