[origin: WO2020035412A1] Apparatus for producing a braided covering (1) around a long object (2). The apparatus has a warp thread frame (5), which rotates in a direction of warp thread rotation (3) about a machine axis (4) and has a group of warp thread spools (6), and a group of spool carriers (7), which rotate about the machine axis (4) in the opposite direction and each have at least one weft thread spool (8). From each warp thread spool (6), at least one warp thread (9) is led to a braiding point (10) and from each weft thread spool (8) at least one weft thread (11) is led to the braiding point (10). By means of a displacing device (12), the path of the warp thread (9) is displaceable alternately above and below the weft thread (11) rotating past in the opposite direction. The apparatus has a spool carrier support (13), which during operation rotates along with the warp thread frame (5) in the direction of warp thread rotation (3). When the machine is at a standstill, the spool carriers (7) are mounted on the spool carrier support (13) and the spool carrier (7) is dimensioned such that, when a default rotational speed is exceeded, the supporting force (FA) on the spool carrier support (13) becomes zero.
