[origin: WO2020035183A1] The invention relates to a method for operating a mobile, portable output apparatus (14) in a motor vehicle (16), wherein the method has the following steps performed by a context processing device (12): receiving a surroundings signal from a recording device (10) of the motor vehicle (16), wherein the received surroundings signal describes information, which is independent of a direction of movement of the motor vehicle (16), pertaining to an event in surroundings of the motor vehicle (16) (S2); determining a prescribed thematic context of a media content of an output file (S3); taking the ascertained thematic context of the media content as a basis for: changing the prescribed media content of the output file (S4) so that the virtual surroundings described by the changed media content take into consideration the information of the event of the surroundings of the motor vehicle (16) in context-based fashion; and transmitting the output file with the changed media content to a display device of the output apparatus (14, S5) to output the output file.
