[origin: WO2020052756A1] A method for operating an in-motor-vehicle audio output device (1), comprising the steps of: - providing a transfer function having an amplitude component and a phase component; - ascertaining a frequency-dependent group delay function of the phase component of the transfer function; - prescribing a target group delay function; - ascertaining a partial difference function, which describes a difference between the group delay function and the target group delay function in a specific frequency interval of a frequency band; - modifying the partial difference function by means of at least one modification measure to obtain a modified partial difference function for the specific frequency interval of the frequency band; - ascertaining the phase component of the modified partial difference function; - producing a correction function to correct the provided transfer function on the basis of the ascertained phase component of the modified partial difference function; - applying the correction function to the provided transfer function to obtain a group delay function approximated to the target group delay function; - outputting audio signals on the basis of the group delay function approximated to the target group delay function.
