[origin: WO2020070195A1] The present invention relates to a method for producing a weld seam at a butt joint (14) between two workpieces (15), wherein the workpieces (15) to be welded are positioned relative to each other by means of a clamping device (11), which comprises a plurality of clamping elements (18, 20, 22) and at least one base block (17), the first workpiece (15) being held between the base block (17) and a clamping surface (36) of the first clamping element (18) and a second workpiece (15) being held between the base block (17) and a clamping surface (36) of the second clamping element (20), a shielding gas being supplied to the butt joint (14), with the clamping elements (18, 20, 22) being aligned adjacent to the butt joint (14) of the workpieces (15) to be welded and the discharge gap (51) of the particular clamping element (18, 20) for the shielding gas being set back relative to the butt joint (14) of the workpieces (15) and a flushing channel (57) being formed between the discharge gap (51) and the butt joint (14). The invention also relates to a clamping device for producing a weld seam at a butt joint between two workpieces by means of laser.
